FENG SHUI | BEST PERSONAL DIRECTION

You have seen how the Bagua, the elements and Yin and Yang work together to balance and harmonize the energy of your home. But to maximise the benefits of Feng Shui, you need to also know your most auspicious direction. Although the Bagua locations for your home are fixed, it is useful to know the best direction for you, as it is worthwhile for you to face this  direction when doing activities for long periods of time, like eating, working, sitting and sleeping.

Your best direction reinforces your personal energy and is highly auspicious for balancing the other energies in the environment. To determine your most auspicious direction,  you need to find out your “kua” number- your lucky number according to Chinese astrology. This number is associated with a specific direction of the eight Bagua compass points. This is the direction you should face when doing activities.

Here are the steps to find out your “kua” number:

  1. Take the last two digits of your birth year and add them together. For example, if you were born in 1970, then you add 7 and 0 to get 7. If the result is greater than 9, add the two digits together to get a single digit.
  2. If you are a female, then you need to add 5 to the single digit  that you produced. For example, 5 + 7 = 12
  3. If you are male, subtract the single digit that you produced in step 1, from 10. For example, 10  – 7 =  3.
  4. If the number that you end up with in steps 2 and 3 is greater than 9, then add the two digits together to get a single digit. This digit is your “kua” number.

The direction associated with each of the “kua” numbers is as follows:

  • 1 – South-East
  • 2 – North-East
  • 3 – South
  • 4 – North
  • 5 – (Male) North-East,  (Female) South-West
  • 6 – West
  • 7 – North-West
  • 8 – South-West
  • 9 – East

NOTE:  When you look at the year of birth, remember to refer to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, to see what date the Chinese New Year fell on the year of your birth. So if you were born before the Chinese New year, then your year of birth is the previous year. For example, if you were born on 25th January, 1971, the Chinese New year in 1971 fell on 27 th January, and so you were born before the new year and hence your birth year will be 1970.
