Anyone who has successfully completed the B.Arch degree course from a recognised Institution in India is elligible to do the post graduation course termed as M.Arch. The CoA with the approval of the Central Government, has prepared the Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 1983, which prescribes the eligibility for admission to the M.Arch course, duration, standards of staff & accommodation, course content, examinations etc.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURAL COURSE IN INDIA?
Post graduate full time degree/diploma – courses in Architecture shall have a minimum duration of 2 academic years or 4 semesters of approximately 18 working weeks duration.
Post graduate part time degree/diploma – courses in Architecture shall have a minimum duration of 3 academic years or 6 semesters of approximately 18 working weeks duration.
Post graduate certificate course – in Architecture shall have a minimum duration of 1 academic year or 2 semesters of approximately 18 working weeks duration.
Students who have successfully completed a post graduate certificate course shall be eligible to enroll in the 3rd semester of a post graduate degree / diploma course in the same specialization.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION TO POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURE COURSE IN INDIA?
The candidate with a minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate in a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree course or equivalent courses recognized by the Council of Architecture may be admitted to the post graduate course (M.Arch.) in Architecture.
WHAT IS THE INTAKE IN POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURAL COURSE IN INDIA?
Not to exceed 20 in a class – The sanctioned intake of candidates in the first year level shall not exceed a maximum of 20 students in a class, if more than 20 students are admitted separate classes shall be arranged.
Migration – The Institutions may permit at their discretion, migration of students from one post-graduate Institution to another Institution subject to a no-objection certificate from the Institution where the student was studying previously and that the Institution receiving the student has a vacancy in the same course offered by the institution.
WHAT IS THE CURRICULUM OF THE POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURE COURSE IN INDIA?
Seminars, workshops, conferences: The Institution shall organize seminars, conferences, workshops, exhibitions; produce audio-visual materials, publish newsletter, journals, documents and books; encourage student and faculty participation in these co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.- Notwithstanding anything contained in these guidelines, the Institution may prescribe its own standards of Architectural Education provided such standards do not, in the opinion of the Council, fall below the minimum standards prescribed from time to time by the Council to meet the requirement of the profession and education thereof in national and international context.
Study tours: The Institution shall, as an integral part of post-graduate Architectural Educational curriculum and as a part of teaching programme, arrange for study tours, visits to places of architectural interests, construction sites, villages, towns and cities; industries manufacturing architectural materials, products and equipment; exhibitions, architectural conservation and development projects.
Development of Institiutions: The Council shall encourage and support within its means and resources, programmes of research, improvement, conservation, development and innovation by the Institutions towards achieving excellence in post graduate architectural education.
Exchange of students: The Council shall facilitate programmes of faculty improvement, continuing educational, research, publications, production of audio-visual aids and national and International interactions, visits and exchange of students and faculty members of post-graduate Architectural Institutions.
WHAT ARE THE COA EXAMINATION REGULATIONS OF THE POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURAL COURSE IN INDIA?
Jury: The sessional work, project, design, research shall be assessed by a jury of internal and external examiners, having a 50:50 weightage, for core subject/s each year.
Examiners: There shall be different set of external examiners for each subject every year. An external examiner for any subject of examination shall have a minimum of 5 years of teaching / professional experience in his / her specific field of study.
Weightage of marks: for subjects having both sessional work as well as examination shall not exceed 60:40 ratio.
Pass percentage: shall not be less than 45% in any subject and shall not be less than 50 % in the aggregate.
Attendance: The candidates to every examination must have 75% attendance in formal post graduate courses and must have at least 50% marks in sessionals for each of the subjects having sessional marks, for being allowed to appear in an examination.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS OF STAFF, EQUIPMENT, ACCOMMODATION & TRAINING FOR POST GRADUATE ARCHITECTURAL COURSE?
Faculty: The Institution offering post-graduate programmes shall have a minimum core faculty consisting of 1 professor, 1 assistant professor and 2 lecturers or research associates for each of the degree / diploma course. The Institution offering post graduate programme shall have a faculty student ratio of 1:5.
Visiting Faculty: The Institution offering post graduate programme may have a maximum of 50% of its teachers as visiting faculty.
Administrative and technical staff: The Institution shall have adequate administrative staff and supporting technical staff for each of its laboratories, computer centres, library, which may be shared with U.G. courses in architecture of the institution.

i have done my B.Arch from M.N.I.T.(1993-98 Batch).
I want to pursue part Time M.arch from YCMOU,(Yashwant Chauhan maharashtra open university)local study centre is Ayajan school of architecture-Jaipur.
It provides a course of 2years i.e. 4 semesters.Should i go ahead.
please guide for suitable study centre for part time M. Arch.
