ABOUT

I am a Bangalore based Architect, with over 20 years experience in residential Architecture. Along with my husband, Ravi, we have founded the Bangalore based architectural firm, Ravi and Minu, Architects, which was established in 2000.

In our interactions with clients, I have come to realise that people embarking on the construction of their ‘dream’ house, are besieged with doubts and have unwarranted fears because they do not have the practical experience. Moreover, they rely heavily on the internet and their fears are multiplied, because there is so much confusion and not much clarity. For example, they read about Vastu Shastra and superstitious fear envelopes them, since nearly all sites talk about the ill-effects and bad luck that one will incur if the house is not in accordance with Vastu Principles. Since I am an Architect, with a scientific bend of mind, I have explained the scientific reasoning behind the Vastu Shastra principles.

For people who are planning on building a house, there are lots of tips on this site on Selecting an Architect, Contractor and the designing process. Similarly, I have dealt upon the practical aspects of architecture, like Building materials, ConstructionGreen Buildings. etc. Interiors is a very important and integral part of Architecture and should be considered along with the designing of a house.

Since many people opt to buy ready made apartments instead of constructing their own houses, they are unsure how to go about choosing the right one. So I have received many requests to review buildings in India. These reviews are based on the pros and cons of the designs of these projects.

Architecture students and architects have also found answers to their queries regarding architecture course and registration with the Council of Architecture, India.

So, architectureideas.info is a site for the layman, interested in architecture, interiors, Construction, Vastu Shastra, Building materials and techniques, explained in simple terms by an experienced architect.

just have a little look at your material at the www regarding vastu and construction and i appreciate you and ur approach towards it. VASTU is nothing except NATURE. We Indian have made all the natural activities documented and which is called SHASTRA. you have also explained all the concept with nature effect. you really got the real meaning of being the PROFESSIONAL IN TURE sense.
When we see the thing / facts AS NATURAL it become different similarly ur approach is different in that way.

    DEAR SIR
    THANKS FOR THE INTERESTING WEBSITE.
WE HAVE A DOOR OPPOSITE OF THE ENTRANCE DOOR (TO THE GARAGE)- WHAT TO DO>>?
FURTHER OUR PLOT HAS A LITTLE FOREST TO NE, BUT IS QUITE LONG COMPARED TO THE SMALL WIDTH. ANY SUGGESTIONS>?
THANKS FOR ANY IDEAS AND SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE.
    Hi Franz,
The effect of the forest is inconsequential, since it is away. In fact fresh oxygen from that side is welcome. Regarding the garage door, nothing can be done. So leave it as it is.

Dear Sir you have mentioned every scientific reason behind vasthu i have impressed a lot i came to know many things but i have a doubt that is panchabuthas same for all then why somebody suggests different directions (entrance),according to their date of birth or janma nakshatra and mentioning male n female is there any scientific reason behind this or is this a superstition i shall be grateful if you solve my doubt thanking you sir Usshaa
    Hi Usshaa,
Thanks for pointing this out. Vastu principles are the same for men, women of all nakshatras in India. There are no separate vastu guidelines for people according to their dates of birth. These are invented by pseudo vastu pundits who are generally astrologers that pretend to know vastu.

    Respected sir,
You have everything in your website. I visit this site n take ideas. I have one query regarding dinning area according to vastu. Since the kitchen is in SE corner the dinning place is convenient in East. May be bathrooms in the West would me more appreciated.
    Hi Jay,
Thank you. Please share. Like you say, if the SE and East are taken up by rooms, then the bathrooms can be placed in the West.

    Hi,

I read your article on Vastu as it applies to Balconies. I am based out of Bangalore as well and was wondering that since the Northern side of buildings do not receive any Sun during the winters what is the rationale for preferring Balconies in the North, in addition to East.
    Your inputs will be appreciated
    Regards,
    KP
    Hi KP,
It’s true that in Winters the Sun appears to be more in the South, but the Sun is in the South at the hottest time of the day. Whereas by 4pm in the evening, the Sun has moved to the NW and continues to move to the NE till dawn. This means that for more than 12 hours, the Sun’s radiation comes in from the North when it is pleasant. So it is useful to have balconies, which are meant for relaxing in the North.
